Reports Released:
- New Report links Federal cuts in affordable housing to massive homelessness.
- The Brookings Institution will release its Katrina Index at end of the week.
 
Recovery:
- La. Director of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness: "U.S. Congress and the nation cannot comprehend the magnitude of Katrina."
- Operation USA continues to assist in recovery of Gulf Coast clinics.
- Trauma of Katrina was the focus of the 2006 Carter Center symposium on mental health policy.
- Selective armoring of the levee and floodwall system.

- Success for fair housing litigation in St. Bernard Parish.
- The tree saga continues along the Gulf Coast.
- Program to train construction workers comes up short despite pressing labor shortages.
- Louisiana Road Home to open assistance center in Houston, TX.
- Gov. Blanco describes pace of Road Home "inadequate".
 
"Katrina Effect":
- Failed federal response to Katrina contributes to Democrats winning majority status.
 
Media and Culture:
- Environmental officials try to convince the public that the New Orleans area is safe.
- Off-Broadway play brings social issues unveiled by Katrina to a theatre audience.
- Comic Relief is back with funds to rebuild homes in New Orleans Lower 9th.
